The Place de la Bastille, famous and symbolic since 1789, when revolutionaries wanting to end the tyranny and despotism of the King Louis XVI, took by force the former prison La Bastille.
The Centre Georges Pompidou dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Art is an architectural curiosity, with its colored pipes, made of glass and steel, often criticized but with an outstanding success.
The Place des Vosges is surrounded by about forty pavilions on archways, where you can see shops, antique dealers and tea rooms. The central garden is very appreciated for the Sunday family walks.
